Coach to leave

Benni McCarthy is ‘set’ to leave United this summer, as detailed in a report by ESPN. The 46-year-old, who is from South Africa, joined the North West outfit back in 2022 and has since been on their coaching staff for the past two years.

However, he is poised to move on ahead of next term. It remains to be seen at this stage what his next plans are.

The former striker spent his playing days with the likes of Ajax, Celta Vigo, Porto, Blackburn Rovers and West Ham.

Striker to find new club

Sheffield Wednesday are in the race to sign Charlie McNeill following his exit from United. That’s according to the Championship Chat Podcast, who claim the Yorkshire side are keen on the attacker as they gear up for another year in the Championship.

The Red Devils have cut ties with the youngster following the end of the last campaign.

McNeill, who is 20-years-old, played once for the Red Devils’ first-team against Real Sociedad back in 2022 and has also been on the books at Manchester City in the past. He also had loan spells away from Old Trafford at Newport County and Stevenage in the Football League to get some experience under his belt.

Sheffield Wednesday could see him as someone to add more competition and depth to their attacking department under German boss Danny Rohl. They managed to stay up in the second tier last term against the odds and are in the hunt for some reinforcements as they look to avoid another year of struggle.

After his exit from United, O’Neill posted on social media: “My time has now come to an end at Manchester United and I would just like to say thank you to all the coaches, staff, fans and everyone involved at the club for the best 4 years ever, from joining the club to winning the FA youth cup to then making my first team debut as an 18 year old which was my dream come true and I will be forever grateful for getting that opportunity and living my dream of playing at the theatre of dreams for my boyhood club which I can thank the manager for.

“I’ve made some friends for life and learnt valuable lessons along the way. I love the club and it will always have a special place in my heart. Once a red. Always a red.”

He wasn’t the only player to head out the exit door. The likes of Anthony Martial, Brandon Williams, Shola Shoretire, Marcus Lawrence, Kie Plumley and Tom Huddlestone also departed, as well as Omari Forson.
