There could be plenty of shirt number changes this summer in an overhaul of the Manchester United playing squad.
United are targeting three key signings at first-team level, while they are also looking for a record-level of player sales as they look to trim the fat on their squad and boost their transfer balance.
Raphael Varane and Anthony Martial will both leave the club for free at the end of the month and United are looking to move on a number of key players including Casemiro and Christian Eriksen.
Their expected exits will free up some of the most desirable squad numbers, with the likes of Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho set to be offered improved numbers if they wish to take them.
United could also look to woo any new signings with a desirable squad number and here are some of the most notable that should be available in the summer.
1. 2 (Currently: Victor Lindelof)
There is a real uncertainty surrounding the Sweden international as he enters the final year of his current deal. He is a valued squad member but does not get the guaranteed playing time he would probably like. 2. 3 (Currently: available)
This shirt has been vacant since Eric Bailly left the club two years ago. Famously worn by Denis Irwin and Patrice Evra, it could be the perfect number for a new defensive addition this summer. 3. 4 (Currently: Sofyan Amrabat)
United have a decision to make on Amrabat after a strong end to the season. If they opt against making his move permanent then he will return to Fiorentina and vacate a shirt previously worn by the likes of Steve Bruce and Phil Jones. 4. 7 (Currently: Mason Mount)
A lot of faith was shown in the midfielder when he was given the coveted shirt number last summer.
