Italian side Juventus were understood to be leading the race to sign the 22-year-old, however a report from The Sun claims the move is now in doubt after opposition from fans, with the club switching their focus to his United teammate Jadon Sancho instead.

Greenwood is a player United are keen to move on following his loan spell at Getafe this season that saw him score 10 goals. There is also a huge financial incentive to sell the forward this summer. As he is an academy graduate, any sale will count as pure profit in terms of Profit and Sustainability Rules is a plus,.

His controversial past is another important matter, following police charges of attempted rape, controlling, coercive behaviour and assault, which were dropped in February 2023.

United considered reintegrating the forward back into the squad last year, a process that resulted in fan protests and a social media backlash. It was ultimately decided to send Greenwood on loan, and while a potential return or a second loan have not been ruled out, he is expected to permanently depart this window.
