The Man Utd star was forced to miss the European Championship as he recovers from injury.

Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has been taking part in recovery work at the club's Carrington training complex as he continues his return to fitness.

The 31-year-old has been sidelined since early May after suffering a calf injury and was forced to miss the FA Cup final triumph over Man City as well as the European Championship with England.

Maguire was named in Gareth Southgate's provisional 33-man squad for the ongoing international tournament but missed out on a call-up over doubts about his match fitness. Although he was initially only ruled out for three weeks, Maguire's recovery didn't go quite as quickly as hoped.

The United centre-back was pictured on a post-season holiday in Turkey last week while his international teammates faced Serbia in their Euro 2024 opener, but now he is back in Manchester as he eyes a return to action in pre-season.

Maguire posted an image of himself at the club's Carrington training complex on Thursday morning and club sources confirmed he was undergoing 'standard recovery work' after his spell on the sidelines.

If the recovery goes well, he is expected to play a significant role in United's pre-season schedule while many other key figures are away on international duty at both the European Championship and Copa America.

Taking to social media after he missed out on a place in the England squad, he wrote: "I am devastated not to have been selected to play for England at the Euros this summer. Despite my best efforts, I have not been able to overcome an injury to my calf. Maybe I pushed myself too hard, to try and make it. Simply, I am absolutely gutted.

"For me, representing England is the highest honour. It means everything to me. If I can’t help the team as a player, I will support them as a fan – along with the rest of the country. Go and win it boys. Next, I will return to the supervision of the Manchester United medical team in order to prepare for next season."
