Manchester United were believed to have looked into the possibility of landing the highly-rated player

Manchester United target Michael Olise is set to have a medical ahead of his proposed move to Bayern Munich from Crystal Palace. According to German news outlet Kicker, he will be checked by the Bundesliga giants over the coming days as they close in on his signature.

United are said to have looked at landing the winger recently as they hunt for signings ahead of the new Premier League season. However, they will have to look elsewhere for targets in his position with the player’s heart set on a move to the Allianz Arena.

Bayern have turned to former Manchester City favourite Vincent Kompany as their manager recently following Thomas Tuchel’s exit. The Belgian left relegated Burnley to move over to Germany in a surprise move.

Olise would have been an ideal addition for United and he has caught the eye at Crystal Palace over recent times.

He is a player on Gareth Southgate’s radar at England, despite the fact he has represented France at youth levels in the past. The Three Lions’ boss has recently said: “He would have to have a transfer of association. That process would take quite a while. He is obviously a very good player, he hasn't made their squad, they might be taking him to the Olympics, I don't know.

“He is a player we should have an interest in because he is a very good player but there is no way you could do all of that in time for the Euros.”

Crystal Palace signed Olise in 2021 and he has since scored 16 goals in 90 games in all competitions, 10 of which came in the last campaign. He was in the academies at Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City as a youngster.

Reading then snapped him up in 2017 and he broke into their first-team a couple of years later before going on to make 73 appearances for the Royals, finding the net on seven occasions.

Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner has been tight-lipped regarding his and Eberechi Eze’s future. Near the end of last term, he said: ““I don't like to talk too much about individual players. Great players, great guys – different characters, like everybody, but this is the most interesting part for a manager. You have 26, 27 people of different characters, different ages, different in every part.

“Different backgrounds and also different experiences. Being new here, to deal with it, to talk to them building a group, building a unit, this is, for me, the most interesting part as a manager.

“We started from the first day. I always told you it's important to get each other known and therefore you have to know the character because some like it when you hug them, some think it's too close. It's better having a little bit more distance. It's the same with me or with the coaching staff, and I think we're on a good pathway.

“I think they both enjoy being fit, both enjoy getting chances, creating chances. Both enjoy playing football but it's not just when we're in possession and scoring goals.”
