Man Utd are keeping their options open in the early stages of the 2024 summer transfer window.

Manchester United have reportedly been handed a blow in their search for a new centre-back this summer.

United have prioritised the addition of at least one centre-back this summer ahead of Raphael Varane's exit as a free agent, while they could sign another to offset the proposed sale of Victor Lindelof as well.

Jarrad Branthwaite remains their top candidate for the role, though the club are prepared to walk away from a deal if there is no indication Everton are willing to compromise over a transfer fee.

It has left United looking at alternatives, with Lille defender Leny Yoro another player who they like the look of. However, there is a problem, Real Madrid also like him too.

In fact, according to notorious transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the 18-year-old is waiting to hear from the La Liga giants before he even considers moving anywhere else this summer.

“The player is waiting for Real Madrid, but other clubs are keeping a close eye on the situation," Romano said on his YouTube channel. “Many rumours on Manchester United – they appreciate, they like Leny Yoro, but at the moment, between Leny Yoro and United, there is still not something advanced on player side. The interest is true, so let’s see if Man United decide to go big on that one.”

United have already missed out on the signing of Tosin Adarabioyo who has joined Chelsea, while a move for Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo is currently off under Uefa rules. Crystal Palace ace Marc Guehi is also of interest to the club but it is understood Crystal Palace would only entertain bids of at least £65 million for him, a figure which could rise after his exploits at the European Championship.
