Man Utd are targeting the addition of a central midfielder in the summer transfer window.

Sporting Lisbon midfielder Morten Hjulmand says he would be open to a Premier League move this summer amid links with a move to Manchester United.

United are prioritising the addition of a defensive midfielder in the coming weeks amid the expectation that Casemiro will leave the club if an appropriate offer comes in. It is understood to be one of three target areas for improvement this summer, along with at centre-back and striker.

Denmark international Hjulmand is one of those who has been linked with a possible move to Old Trafford after a stellar season for Sporting Lisbon, but right now, his focus is fully on the European Championship where he will play alongside both Christian Eriksen and Rasmus Hojlund.

Asked about the possibility of a Premier League move, he told Tips Bladet: “I’d say that it is a destination I could see myself going to in the future. Whether it’s a dream, I don’t know. But it is a goal for me to play in the Premier League one day."

Eriksen and Hojlund would both likely vouch for Hjulmand this summer, while club captain Bruno Fernandes is also a huge fan of his, recently stating he 'loved' the midfield two of him and Hidemasa Morita at his former club.

When quizzed on the praise from Fernandes, the current Sporting star added: “It’s always great to receive praise from other big profiles. I know he’s a former Sporting player and he’s still a big fan of the club, so it’s great to know he’s still watching. It can only make me happy to receive praise from a player like him.”
