Man Utd are looking at ways to improve their squad in the summer transfer window.

Manchester United are looking to overhaul their squad this summer and could replace Casemiro with their own Sergio Busquets.

United are looking to sell the Brazilian as they look to balance the books and bring down the age of their playing squad, with a move to Saudi Arabia still seen as the most likely for the 32-year-old. His exit could even accelerate in the coming weeks, with United looking at players who could potentially replace him at the base of midfield and form a key part of their squad in the years to come.

Manuel Ugarte is the latest name to be linked with the role and of all the suggestions so far, he is arguably the most exciting and realistic addition they could make right now.

United are interested in the 23-year-old and it is understood the player would also be open to a move to Old Trafford this summer, despite only joining Paris Saint-Germain a year ago. Ugarte was labeled a 'revelation' when he arrived in the French capital from Sporting Lisbon, but in the second half of the season, he fell out of favour with manager Luis Enrique and was largely reduced to substitute appearances.

While PSG won't want to make a huge loss on the €60 million they invested in him a year ago, it is believed they are open to selling several high-profile players this summer as they look to rebuild following Kylian Mbappe's departure on a free transfer. It has even been suggested the French club could accept an initial loan deal with the option to make it permanent further down the line.

The initial reaction might be to roll the eyes at United signing a player who hasn't exactly set the world alight for PSG, but the Uruguay international could be the perfect fit for a side that has been far too soft in midfield.

At the age of 23, he fits the ideal demographic for a recruit this summer and his style of play is exactly what United have been missing at the heart of their team. Ugarte is highly aggressive and tenacious, and he also has the engine required to press high up the pitch and track back to help his teammates when necessary. It must be said that his tenacity can often get the better of him, and Ugarte is prone to the occasional reckless challenge, yet there are also some concerns about his ill-discipline when he is riled up and unable to control his raw emotions.

If you compare him with Casemiro, it is easy to see why Ugarte could be better suited to United next season. Despite his mixed fortunes at PSG, Ugarte still ranked in the top 99th percentile for tackles per 90 minutes across Europe's top five divisions and ranked in the top 96th percentile for interceptions per 90 minutes. He boasted a pass completion of 91.2%, Casemiro's was just 81.8%, though the Brazilian boasted a better tackle success rate, which highlights the rather rash approach of Ugarte.

Yet perhaps that is exactly what this often soft-centered United team needs. The Uruguayan models himself on Barcelona great Busquests and could be the perfect anchor for Kobbie Mainoo and Bruno Fernandes in midfield.

“In the national team, (I play) in a double pivot. And, at Sporting, I play more as a number six," he stated two years ago. “But I have also played as number eight. These are the positions in which I feel most comfortable. In my position, (I idolise) Busquets. I try to copy the way he escapes the press with clean and targeted passes. I have to get better with my first touch. And I have to (be more aware of what is around me). If you do, you get a wider picture and that’s something fundamental.”

The reason he could be leaving PSG this summer is that he hasn't built upon the huge promise he had at Sporting in the way many thought he would, but if there is a way of silencing his critics, it is by shining in the Premier League instead.

At a time when United are looking for their shot at redemption, Ugarte could be too.
