It has been a season to remember for the Man Utd youth academy with two players up for the Golden Boy award.

Manchester United duo Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho have both been nominated for the prestigious 2024 Golden Boy award.

Mainoo and Garnacho are two of the early frontrunners for the award and have been listed amongst the top 10 nominees as part of the initial 100-man shortlist.

The academy graduates have both already established themselves as key figures for United at first-team level and capped a tremendous season individually when they scored in the FA Cup final win over Man City last month.

The nominees are listed from 1 to 100 based on their current benchmark index, with Garnacho third on the list behind Barcelona ace Lamine Yamal and Benfica star Joao Neves.

Mainoo is currently seventh on the list, behind United transfer target Leny Yoro, with reports suggesting United could rival Real Madrid for the Lille defender’s signature this summer.

The Golden Boy award has been running since 2003, and is given to the most impressive young player playing in Europe over the past calendar year. All nominees for the award must be under the age of 21 and play in a European nation's top tier.

The award is voted for by a number of national newspapers with each juror allowed to nominate five players for the award. Over the course of the year the list will be reduced down to the final 20, before the final short list is revealed.

Three United players have won the award before with Wayne Rooney in 2004, Anderson in 2008 and Anthony Martial in 2016.
