I didn't expect my brother to have 'unbelievable' impact he did at Manchester United this season

I think if you asked him at the start of the season, I don’t think he would have expected to be playing in another FA Cup Final, and winning it, with Manchester United.

In a weekend of Wembley heroics, it is quite easy to take for granted the remarkable story of Jonny Evans.

Manchester United were ridiculed when they invited the veteran defender to train with them last summer, even more so when they eventually offered him a one-year deal. They would quickly come to rely on him amid their defensive injury crisis.

Evans made 30 appearances in total across all competitions over the past season, the last coming from the bench to get his side over the line in the FA Cup final win over Man City.

If it turns out to be his final appearance for the club, then he saved one of the best until last, with victory at Wembley ensuring he has now won ever major trophy across his two United spells.

It marks a fitting farewell to an incredible return to Old Trafford and even younger brother Corry, himself a former United player, has been taken back by his sibling's immense contribution.

“I think any time Jonny was called upon, he did unbelievable," Corry told the Belfast Telegraph. "I think if you asked him at the start of the season, I don’t think he would have expected to be playing in another FA Cup Final, and winning it, with Manchester United. But football is a strange game, and he is still showing he has the quality and the fitness and everything else that goes with it to be part of a team like that. And he’s got another medal. It is some career, and the family are immensely proud of him.”

Evans is out of contract at the end of the season and it remains to be seen whether or not he will be offered a new deal, an issue complicated by the uncertainty regarding the manager situation.

On the Wembley win, Corry added: “It was a great day out. It was the perfect FA Cup Final, with the sun out and an incredible atmosphere. It’s exactly what you want the Cup Final to be. And the red side of Manchester was celebrating at the end, which was nice for my family. I took my son along, and I don’t think he will ever forget it.

“I was so proud of Jonny. He did well in the Cup Final, but it wasn’t just Saturday, he’s done unbelievably well this season. I think he has shown what a quality player he still is, and I think he deserved to play a part on Saturday. It was a proud moment for the whole family.”
