The knockout games begin on Saturday with Switzerland v Italy and Germany v Denmark.

Christian Eriksen missed Denmark training on Friday as they prepare for Saturday’s Euro 2024 clash against Germany.

The Manchester United star has started all three games at this summer’s championships as Denmark finished second in Group C and set up a last-16 tie with the hosts. Eriksen has impressed in an attacking midfield position and scored the opener in 1-1 draw against Serbia, while he also excelled against England four days later.

But his involvement against Germany is now in doubt as he was not seen training with the squad on Friday, although AFP report the 32-year-old took part in a gym workout instead.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid’s Antonio Rudiger returned to Germany training on Friday. The former Chelsea man picked up a muscular issue in Monday’s draw with Switzerland that has prevented him from taking part in team sessions this week.

However, Rudiger is expected to be fit to start this weekend in Dortmund and he took part in the full session ahead of the clash. It’s a significant boost for manager Julian Nagelsmann given Jonathan Tah - who has started alongside Rudiger at the heart of defence in all three games so far - is suspended for the knockout tie against the Danes. Nico Schlotterbeck is expected to replace the Bayer Leverkusen centre-back.

Germany’s game against Denmark is the second of the last-16 ties, which is preceded by Switzerland v Italy on Saturday evening. The winner of that game will face either England or Slovakia in the quarter-finals, with the Three Lions in action on Sunday.
