Jack Grealish and Harry Maguire have not made the cut for differing reasons.

Manchester United star Harry Maguire is reportedly set to miss Euro 2024 through injury - while Jack Grealish has been left out.

Grealish has struggled for form this season despite City’s fourth straight title triumph while Maguire, who was tipped to start alongside John Stones in the heart of the England defence, has been battling a calf injury. The Athletic reports both will now not be on the plane to Germany.

Boss Gareth Southgate has to cut seven players from his initial 33-man party with midfielders James Maddison and Curtis Jones having already been told they will not feature, leaving the camp. It is also believed Burnley’s ex-City man James Trafford will be the goalkeeper left at home.

Speaking when the initial squad was announced Southgate gave no guarantees about Grealish. He said: “He has been really bright and he loves being here. He’s had a good energy about his training. This season he has not played as much. I’m sure he would have liked that to be different but we know the qualities he can bring. He is a player we enjoy working with and a character we enjoy having within the group.”

Maguire has not played since the 1-1 draw with Burnley on April 27 and missed United’s FA Cup final win against City and the final five matches of the campaign.

Fellow United defender Luke Shaw is with the Three Lions training party in his own race against time to be fit for the competition. The only natural left back selected by Southgate, he has managed just 15 appearances all season and has not played since mid-February.
