A former FA Youth Cup-winning striker has attracted interest from Sheffield Wednesday.

Ex-Manchester United forward Charlie McNeill is attracting interest from the Championship, Serie A and America.

The forward is currently a free agent after he departed Old Trafford at the end of the 2023/24 season, and has been in talks with several clubs about a possible move.

ManchesterWorld understands Sheffield Wednesday have been in discussions with McNeill, who feels working with Owls manager Danny Rohl will help with his long-term development.

The 20-year-old has suffered a difficult few years and has struggled with injuries. McNeill, who made one first-team appearance for United, also experienced tough loan moves at Newport County and Stevenage.

But the precocious talent shone at Under-18 level for United and the club deemed the youngster worthy of a £750,000 fee in 2020. Therefore, he’s still viewed as a player with huge potential and has attracted interest from Italian sides Lazio and Torino, while Major League Soccer clubs LA Galaxy and Toronto have offered McNeill terms.

But it’s understood a move to Wednesday is more likely at this stage for the ex-United man, who would be part of the club’s first-team squad should he complete a move to Hillsborough.

The Yorkshire club survived relegation from the Championship on the final day of the 2023/24 campaign, a remarkable turnaround given Wednesday picked up just three points from their opening 13 games of the season.

The Owls have already had a busy summer and have brought in Yan Valery, Max Lowe, Jamal Lowe, Svante Ingelsson and Ben Hamer. Wednesday begin the 2024/25 season with a home game against Wayne Rooney’s Plymouth Argyle.
