Benni McCarthy is out of contract at Man Utd this summer and it remains to be seen what will happen next.

Manchester United coach Benni McCarthy admits he would find it difficult to turn down a managerial role at South African side Kaizer Chiefs if he were to be offered the job.

The Chiefs are currently on the search for a new head coach after a hugely disappointing season that saw them finish 10th in the DStv Premiership, just six points above the relegation zone.

Interim coach Cavin Johnson is expected to return to his previous role as head of the club's academy, with the club looking to hire a new manager who can bring back success. Kaizer Chiefs are one of the most successful clubs in South African football, having won 13 league titles.

Although he played for the Chiefs' fierce rivals, Orlando Pirates, during his playing career, McCarthy admits he would consider any opportunity to manage a team of such magnitude in his homeland.

“If the opportunity arises to coach KaizerChiefs, obviously you will have to sit down and think about it,” McCarthy said to Robert Marawa on 947 after he was asked about the job. “Like I said, you don’t say no to an institution."

A key part of the decision could depend on whether or not he is offered a new deal by United. The South African great is out of contract at the club next month and it is unclear if he will sign a new contract.

McCarthy has been a popular member of the United backroom staff ever since he joined as a striker coach two years ago.
