One of Sir Alex Ferguson’s final Manchester United signings is set for another year in the top flight.

Former Manchester United star Ashley Young has signed a one-year contract extension with Everton.

The 38-year-old made 31 Premier League appearances for the Toffees in 2023/24, despite missing five games around the turn of the year through injury. Young’s deal at Goodison Park had been set to expire before Tuesday’s announcement that he has signed an extension - one that will see him play an 18th top-flight campaign.

“It was a no-brainer for me to sign again," Young told the club’s website. "I spoke to the manager before the end of the season. He asked me what I wanted to do, if I wanted to stay, and straight away I said yes because I loved my time here.

"The size of the club, the staff, the players and, of course, the fans, who have been excellent. I loved my time here last season. We had ups and downs but I can see how big the club is and where the club wants to get to. I want to be a part of that.

The one-year extension means Young will play in Everton’s final campaign at Goodison before the club move to their new ground at Bramley-Moore Dock in 2025.

A United fan favourite, the winger turned full-back made 261 appearances for the club and was one of Sir Alex Ferguson’s final signings. He won the Premier League, FA Cup, EFL Cup and Europa League during his time at Old Trafford and departed to Inter Milan in 2019, where he won a Serie A title under Antonio Conte.

Young currently sits 22nd in the list of all-time Premier League appearances, with ex-team-mate James Milner the only current player higher in the rankings. The defender has also played for Watford and Aston Villa in his illustrious career and earned 39 England caps.
