Manchester United are working to strike a deal with Turkish club Fenerbahce for their £52 million midfielder.

The big day is here as the Premier League returns after a long summer break with football fans eager to see the top flight come back with a bang.

For Manchester United supporters, there are still a few more days to see Erik ten Hag's side in action with the club's first fixture coming on Monday night against Wolves - noisy neighbours Manchester City kick off proceedings against Burnley this evening.

Here's the latest transfer news from Old Trafford this morning.

'Nothing finished' about Fred move to Fenerbahce

A deal to take Manchester United midfielder Fred to Fenerbahce is not as close to completion as first thought.

It had been reported that the 30-year-old was on the verge of completing a move to Turkey but Fenerbahce manager Ismail Kartal has said there is still some distance to go to strike a deal with the Red Devils.

Speaking after his side's 3-1 UEFA Conference League qualifying victory over NK Maribor, Katal told Fanatik: "There’s nothing finished about Fred so far. It wouldn’t be right to talk about something unfinished. Let’s wait and see.”

Fenerbahce are believed to have offered £13 million for the experienced Brazilian but Manchester United value the star closer to the £20 million mark, having forked out £52 million for him in 2018.

Liverpool deal raises questions over Man Utd choice

Brighton have accepted a mammoth £110 million bid from Liverpool for midfielder Moises Caicedo, in a deal which has raised eyebrows over a Manchester United transfer decision from yesteryear.

Caicedo was once linked with a move to Old Trafford, although this window's transfer rumours have been more frequent with Chelsea and Arsenal, along with Jurgen Klopp's side.

The Athletic report that Manchester United could have landed Caicedo themselves just three years ago for as little as £4.5 million when initially registering interest in 2020.

At that moment, the Ecuadorian was playing for Independiente del Valle in his home country but Manchester United walked away from the deal and Brighton swooped in. As the Seagulls make a huge £106 million profit on the star, some critics today lament the Red Devils' lack of action three years prior.
