"Unfortunately, he suffered a setback during his rehabilitation, which required further surgery. This has been successfully completed and Malacia is now back at Carrington working hard to be fit early in the New Year."
The left-back joined United from Feyenoord last summer and played 39 times in his maiden campaign at Old Trafford. But the pre-season injury has meant Malacia has failed to play a single game this term.
Malacia's injury has also been impacted by other absences at left-back. Luke Shaw has only recently returned to the team following a long-term injury, while Sergio Reguilon has been in an out of the team throughout the campaign.
