The semi-finals of the Champions League are almost upon us, with Manchester City welcoming Real Madrid to the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday evening, while Villarreal travel to Liverpool on Wednesday.
City boss Pep Guardiola guided his team to the final of the competition last year but fell to a 1-0 defeat to Chelsea - his first loss as a manager in the last-two of the Champions League.
The Catalan now looks to reach the final for the second time in as many years but faces the task of beating the 13-time winners Real over two legs.
Guardiola will be hoping his side can repeat their last-16 performance against Los Blancos in 2020 when the Sky Blues beat the La Liga club 4-2 on aggregate.
Despite this, the Catalan hasn’t had the best of times in the semi-finals of the competition, losing more than he has won.
With that being said, we take a look at Guardiola’s Champions League record ahead of City’s clash with Real on Tuesday…
1. Manchester City 4-1 Paris Saint-Germain (2021)
As previously mentioned, Pep oversaw the Sky Blues’ progression to the final of the competition last season, beating PSG 4-1 over both legs. Riyad Mahrez played a key part in helping Guardiola’s side, scoring twice in the second-leg and once in the first.
2. Bayern Munich 2-2 Atletico Madrid (2016)
The Catalan would’ve wished away goals weren’t a rule back in the 2015/16 season when his Bayern side drew 2-2 with Atletico on aggregate after both legs. However, due to the latter scoring at the Allianz Arena in the first-leg they progressed to the final. Photo: Getty Images
3. Bayern Munich 3-5 Barcelona (2015)
The previous season saw Bayern bow out of the Champions League in the semi-finals with a 5-3 loss on aggregate to his former side Barcelona. Photo: Getty Images
4. Bayern Munich 0-5 Real Madrid (2014)
A last-four to forget for Guardiola who oversaw his Bayern team thumped 5-0 over both legs by Real, including a 4-0 defeat at home to the La Liga club. Photo: Getty Images
