As we enter November, Christmas related searches soar in Manchester as Mancunians get ready to decorate their homes

As the festive season closes in and with just six weeks until Christmas, Manchester’s citizens have once again started to think about their Christmas decorations. In fact, according to internet searches on Christmas related topics, Manchester ranks in the top 10 most eager cities in the UK to decorate for the holidays, according to data from B&Q.

According to the stats, searches for the B&Q Christmas shop increased by 200% in Manchester in the week commencing October 31, with the list topped by York with a 625% increase and Leeds with a 430% increase. Manchester comes in ninth place, closely followed by Nottingham at a 191% increase.

The data also took a look at what sort of Christmas tree the cities preferred, in 2021, 60% of Mancunians opted for the easier option of an artificial tree.  In fact, artificial trees are preferred in 9 out of 13 of the top cities listed, with only York, Leeds and Sheffield choosing a real tree and Bristol being 50/50 in favour of real or artificial. Among artificial trees, the prelit Christmas tree is looking to be this year’s hottest trend as searches increase by 170% in the UK.

Considering how stressful the festive season can be, buying a pre lit Christmas tree might be one way to get rid of some of the stress. Not having to buy extra lights or detangle the ones kept in storage since last year’s festivities could explain their increasing popularity.
