Stuck for inspiration for a wet weekend in Manchester? Here are some fun things you can do over the weekend.

We’ll be honest - the weather is looking decidedly dodgy in Manchester this weekend, with showers to predicted to kick on Saturday and not let up much til later on Sunday.

To give you a helping hand, here are a few suggestions to help see you through the weekend, from nights out for adults to day trips for children and families.

A few laughs after a wet week are the order of the day and tonight’s comedy club show features MC Brennan Reece introducing Jonny Pelham, Allyson June and Mick Ferry. Over 18s only. There is also an online comedy event on Saturday: click here for more details.

Manchester Science Festival at Museum of Science and Industry

Liverpool Road, Manchester M3 4FP ; Friday 20 August to Sunday 22 August, free (pre-booking advised)

The festival has team up with CBeebies and CBBC to bring Grace’s Amazing Machines to the museum over the weekend, alongside screenings and activities around Hey Duggee, Blue Peter and Newsround. Kids can also learn about recycling and sustainable food; with lots of explainers and experiments, it is a family friendly day out. See the website for individual show times here.

Lily Parr: make your own timeline at National Football Museum

Urbis, Cathedral Gardens, M4 3BG; Friday 20 August, from 11am-1pm; free.

Help create a new community artwork and celebrate Lily Parr, a global female football icon from the early days of the game, with the help of artists Rosanna Frith-Salem and Billy Colours. See more here.

Wonderland yoga at RHS Garden Bridgewater

Tumble down the rabbit hole (hopefully not literally!) and limber up for an Alice in Wonderland-themed yoga session, which is said to be suitable for all the family. It’s part of their season of events themed around the children’s classic: see more here.

Last Night at the Proms at Ordsall Hall

Pack your picnics and probably your brollies - Outreach Opera are set to take you on a musical journey through Britain’s best-loved classics. The event aims to make opera accessible to all, and gates open from 1pm. More info and ticket booking details here.
